North Finchley

The new North Finchley bus station opened in 2004, but closed several months later due to safety issues after a pensioner walked into the shelter through the wrong entrance, was hit by a bus, and killed. The bus station was reopened in March 2007 after safety improvements were implemented. They included the addition of a barrier at the exit and a public address system. A week after the reopening, the barriers were declared faulty."Incompetence", Hendon and Finchley Times, 2007-03-21, http://www.hendontimes.co.uk/mostpopular.var.1276595.mostviewed.incompetence.php  The barrier was refitted a week after the fault was declared.

Woodside Park tube station

London Buses route 383 to/from Barnet (the Spires) terminates at and departs from the main station entrance on Woodside Park road. This is relatively recent; until about the year 2000 no bus routes served the station. Further buses serve North Finchley High Road, which is a 5-10 minute walk east from the station along Woodside Park road.

Highgate tube station

Highgate station was originally constructed by the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway in the 1860s on its line from Finsbury Park to Edgware. Before the line was opened it was purchased in July 1867 by the larger Great Northern Railway (GNR), whose main line from King's Cross ran through Finsbury Park on its way to Potters Bar and the north. The railway to Edgware opened as a single-track line on 22 August 1867.[2]

A1 road (London)

At the northern end of Archway Road, the road re-intersects with the traditional Great North Road route (at this point called "North Hill"). The roads almost immediately re-diverge, with the Great North Road route heading north as the A1000 towards Finchley, Whetstone and Barnet and the A1 heading west as Aylmer Road. The two routes do not meet again until they converge at Hatfield, well to the north of London.[69]
