The park also commands views of the skyline of the city and Central London. At the top of the hill within the park stands Brockwell Hall.
Dulwich Park contains a café, boating lake and numerous sporting facilities. Various types of recumbent bicycles are available for hire. Cars have not been permitted to drive inside the park since 2003, with the exception of disabled badge holders, but there is a free car park at the College Road entrance.
Originally named the London County Grounds,[2] it takes its modern name from the locality, being situated just off Burbage Road, in Herne Hill, part of the London Borough of Southwark. From 1903 it was the venue for the Good Friday meeting (see External links below for Good Friday (film) by Maz Lewis) organised by the Southern Counties Cycle Union. World champions have performed at Good Friday meetings, which during the 1920s and 1930s attracted attendances of 10,000.[3] National and world records have been established there - Norwood Paragon's Frank Southall was a notable record-breaker in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Finchley was created an urban district of Middlesex in 1894. In 1932 it was created as the Municipal Borough of Finchley, but in 1965 the municipal borough was abolished and its area became part of the London Borough of Barnet.
