The park is a short walk from Carshalton railway station, turning left on exit. The park is also on the route of Transport for London buses 127 and 157 [8], alighting at the Carshalton Ponds stop.
The May 2010 local government elections saw the Labour Party become the council largest party, following the loss of three seats by the Conservative Party, two to the Liberal Democrats and one to Labour. This followed four years of a Conservative-led administration. Between 1990 and 2006 Merton was Labour controlled. Prior to 1990 the Council had been predominantly Conservative controlled with only one period of Labour control between 1971 and 1974. The station building remained until the 1960s, when all but the structure immediately around the original lift shaft was demolished.[1] Today little remains to indicate the site of the former station. At track level the short station tunnels remain visible from trains passing through.
