New DLR platforms under construction
Stratford International station is a railway station located in Stratford in the London Borough of Newham in northeast London, England. The station opened on 30 November 2009 for Southeastern services on High Speed 1,[1] although the station building was completed much earlier in April 2006.[2] It is located adjacent to the construction sites of both the London Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford City, which currently prevents pedestrian access; during local redevelopment work a temporary bus service links Stratford International to nearby Stratford Regional. It is planned that during 2010 an extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will connect the station directly to the London public transport network. Eurostar trains will not stop at this station until after the DLR extension has been completed.
In 2005 the Theatre Royal Stratford East made history by having the first British Black musical to transfer to London's West End, where it played at the Apollo Theatre. Recently the theatre produced a musical version of the cult Jamaican film The Harder They Come. This production was written by the film director Perry Henzel and was one of the most successful productions in the theatre's history.
To the west is Brunswick Square (forming part of Coram's Fields), and to the east is Mecklenburgh Square (bordered by Goodenough College to the south), two historical London squares. To the north is the Thomas Coram Foundation and St George's Gardens. To the south are Guilford Street and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Russell Square is a London Underground station on Bernard Street, Bloomsbury in the London Borough of Camden. It is a small but busy station, used by office workers and tourists staying in Bloomsbury's numerous hotels.
