Ultimately the botanical rose windows at the Abney Park Chapel provided a strong symbolic detail that dovetailed the chapel to the design of the grounds and its rosarium, besides offering the beauty of simplicity and a compliment to the Creator; a design of considerable thoughtfulness as came to typify William Hosking's learned and historical approach to architecture.
Alongside the Methodist Training college was another educational establishment of note in Abney Park: a Quaker school for girls which attracted various appellations including 'Newington College for Girls' or 'Newington Academy for Girls', and satirically as 'Newington Nunnery'.
The now buried and lost Hackney Brook once ran across the north of the common, but this has long been replaced by the busy Northwold Road. This was due to the increased population at the time of its burial reducing the brook to no more than an open sewer.
The station is unique in the district as it is at the centre of a residential area. There are no retail stores around it other than a small mobile coffee shop outside the entrance. This is mainly due to residential pressures against commercial activity in the area.
