Leyton Grange

Leyton Grange is sited in an area of Waltham Forest that overlooks the marshes of the River Lea, east of the city of London. The Grange was the ancient manor house of Leyton, the name signifying that it was once owned by Stratford Abbey; the first record of it by that name is in 1470. The house was rebuilt in 1720 in the Palladian style to the design of its owner, David Gansel[1]. Leyton Grange was the seat of a branch of the Lane family from 1784 until 1861, when they sold it to the British Land Company who broke it up for development. From approximately 1824 until 1843 the Lanes leased the Grange to William Rhodes, grandfather of Cecil Rhodes.

Brisbane Road

The ground is named after Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn's sports promotion company, Matchroom Sport, prior to which it was officially the Leyton Stadium, though fans still refer to it as Brisbane Road. The club has registered an interest into moving into the Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Olympics as this will have a capacity of about 25,000; however, the club's average attendance of about 5,000 means that this is in no way a probable move. Brisbane Road is in very close proximity to both the Olympic Park and also Hackney Marshes.

Leyton tube station

Bus routes N26, 58, 69, 97, 158 and 308 pass by the station, while the W14 and W15 are a couple of minutes down the road.

CityPoint

In early 2007, the building was again put on the market, this time for £650m. At the time, this made it the most expensive building ever sold in the UK, as a private US company - Beacon Capital - agreed to buy it. However, 8 Canada Square in Canary Wharf eclipsed this by some margin when, in April 2007, it was sold for over £1 billion.
