Loftus Road was the first 'neutral' venue to capitalise on hosting international friendlies not involving England. The ground has subsequently hosted 'home' ties for the Jamaican and Australian national teams to capitalise on the large Australian and Caribbean populations in west London.
The station is at the western end of Shepherd's Bush Green, and stands just across the road from the marketplace which gives it its name. Stallholders have traded on the strip of land beside the Hammersmith & City line since 1914, when the market took over the station's first site. The other end of the market is served by Goldhawk Road Underground station.[4]
Finchley was created an urban district of Middlesex in 1894. In 1932 it was created as the Municipal Borough of Finchley, but in 1965 the municipal borough was abolished and its area became part of the London Borough of Barnet.
