The 2010 local elections took place on 6 May 2010. The outcome was little change from the 2006-10 Council: Conservatives have 33, Residents 12, Labour 5 and Independent Residents 4. The BNP lost its one seat (although the BNP Member returned as an Independent Resident), while Labour increased its membership by three, taking the BNP and two Conservative seats. The Independent Residents, who had split in 2008, regained the seats lost through the split. The LibDem Member also lost, to a Residents (ex-Labour) candidate.
Eastbound platform
The new tracks built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway allowed additional intermediate stations to be constructed on the local lines between 1932 and 1935. Increased local demand was caused by the expansion of the built up area of suburban London during the interwar period. The station at Upminster Bridge opened with platforms on the local electric lines on 17 December 1934.[4] The station was operated by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway but was only served by District line trains. After nationalisation of the railways in 1948 management of the station passed to British Railways and in 1969 ownership transferred to the London Underground.[6]
Looking south
London Underground Limited announced in June 2007 that due to reduced demand for tickets bought from ticket offices (as opposed to from machines) around 40 of the most lightly-used ticket offices at Tube stations will close from March 2008.[4] The list of stations includes West Finchley.
