8 Canada Square

Using the timespan from the official opening in April 2003 as a basis, it took only four years for HSBC to begin to have problems managing the costs associated with the building. In April 2007, HSBC Tower became the first building in Britain to be sold for more than £1bn.;[4] it was sold to Spanish property company Metrovacesa. On 5 December 2008, HSBC Holdings retook ownership and posted a £250 million ($368 million) gain from the agreement in the second half of the year. However, on 13 November 2009, HSBC once again sold the building ? to the National Pension Service of Korea ('NPS') for £772.5 million in cash. As a result of the transaction, a gain of approximately £350 million was recognised in HSBC's income statement on completion, which was finalised in 2009 just before the new year. It is not known if HSBC will again buy back the building once it decides it can afford it, but it still occupies the building in full even though the property owner has changed.[citation needed]

Canada Square

The complex and the square is served by the Canary Wharf tube station on the Jubilee Line and the Canary Wharf DLR station on the Docklands Light Railway.

Credit Suisse has one half of the building but only occupies floors 11-15.

Southwark Street

During the first decade of the street's existence, many large commercial buildings were built along the street. The Hop Exchange, of 1874, is the most notable building at the northern side filling most of the quadrant formed by the street and the railway viaduct. Built in the 1870s, the former Menier Chocolate Factory factory on Southwark Street was converted to an arts complex that incorporates an art gallery, restaurant, and theatre, opening in 2004.[3] In 1932 Borough Market built a formal gateway with administrative offices at Nos 6 and 8. In 1958 the Trustees erected a small office building at the junction with Stoney Street 'St Margaret's House'. At No 110, the western-end of the street, is the headquarters of IPC Magazines at the 'Blue Fin Building' completed in 2007.
