Places of interest in SW2

Brockwell Park

Brockwell Park contains a number of amenities, including tennis courts, a bowling green, a BMX track and a miniature railway[5].

Brixton tube station

London bus routes 2, 3, 35, 45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, 333, 355, 415, 432, P4, School route 689, 690, night routes N2, N3, N35, N109 and N133.

Brixton (HM Prison)

Conditions in the prison gradually improved during the mid-19th century as a nursery was opened in the prison for children under the age of four and, by 1860, inmates were allowed to keep their children until the end of their prison sentence. Brixton eventually became a military prison from 1882 until 1898 and remains a trial-and-remand prison for London and the Home Counties. Conditions inside the prison today are still grim, due to Crown Immunity, normal health and safety regulations are not binding, when the cell doors shut in the evenings, the communal areas (in all wings) are overrun with mice and rats. The footings for the treadmill remain and are visible and the former 'hanging ie execution suite' is now an enlarged cell with six beds.

Fenchurch Street railway station

Fenchurch Street railway station,[3] also known as London Fenchurch Street,[4] is a central London railway terminus in the south eastern corner of the City of London close to the Tower of London and two miles (3.2 km) east of Charing Cross. The station is one of the smallest terminals in London in terms of platforms and one of the most intensively operated. Uniquely, it does not have a direct link to the London Underground, but a second entrance at Crosswall (also known as the Tower entrance) is near to Tower Hill tube station and Tower Gateway DLR station, and Aldgate tube station is also nearby. It is one of eighteen UK railway stations managed by Network Rail.[5]

30 St Mary Axe

The UK government's statutory adviser on the historic environment, English Heritage, and the City of London governing body, the City of London Corporation, were keen that any redevelopment must restore the building's old façade onto St Mary Axe. The Exchange Hall was a celebrated fixture of the ship trading company.[6][7]
