The centre suffered badly in the 1990s recession, with many of the established shops leaving and being replaced by pound shops and charity shops.[5] It was also the location for the short-lived and controversial 1998 game show Beat the Crusher.[8]
There are three rivers of note still flowing above ground in the borough. These are:
Holloway Road is a station on the London Underground. It is on the Piccadilly Line between Caledonian Road and Arsenal stations, and in Travelcard Zone 2. The station opened on 15 December 1906.
Caledonian Road station is located on Caledonian Road in Holloway, north London. The station continues to use lifts, never having been upgraded to escalators. Unusually for stations of its era, the lifts descend directly to platform level with no secondary staircases. In recent times this has meant that the station is now advertised as "Step Free" on line maps without rebuilding work taking place.
