The London Borough of Sutton ( pronunciation (help·info)) is a London borough in South London, England and forms part of Outer London. It covers an area of 43 km2 (16.6 sq mi) and is the 80th largest local authority in England by population. It is one of the southernmost boroughs of London.[2] It is south of the London Borough of Merton, west of the London Borough of Croydon and east of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames.
The estate lent its name to the Oaks horserace which was inaugurated by the Earl in 1779 and is run annually during the Derby meeting at Epsom Downs Racecourse, about 4 miles to the west.

Today's single-storey structure was built in the 1960s for the opening of the Victoria line on 1 September 1968 and is the entrance for all lines. When the escalators to the deep level platforms were opened the GN&CR station building was closed. Its disused entrance remains and was refurbished externally in 2006 - it houses signalling equipment for the Victoria line.[5]
